We had different tour guides throughout our trip, but our Cape Town guide, who was only with use for 3 days, was the one who greeted us and was actually with is the longest. He had the most fascinating family story. His mother was colored and his father was black. His mother, who worked in a colored school, was marked as white here in the town hall. That meant that their marriage was illegal and that she could no longer teach at the school. She returned to request a change to "colored."  People were marked by the color of their skin, and hers was very light. Our tour guide is colored, the term used in South Africa for people of mixed race.

I think Gillian Perry was 1981 (the year Chariots of Fire was released) and Chris was 1986 (the year we took Josh with us).

Dear Ms. Brenner:
My wife Janine is a retired French and Spanish teacher from Hamilton-Wenham regional High School in Hamilton , MA.
Waaaaaaaaaaay back in 1980 she took a group of her students, with me as a chaperone, on an April trip to France. Our tour guide was Albert Van Roermund (Van Amstel). We formed a great friendship with him and he stayed with us in Boston on several occasions. Over time we lost contact, unfortunately. About six or eight months ago, Janine was able to get in touch with another Mass. teacher who informed us that Albert had passed away many years ago. Janine was checking some stuff this morning (9/5) and to our surprise there was a posting indicating that he is very much alive. I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind communicating with Janine as to what’s going on with Albert The email address I provided is hers.

Many thanks for your help. Looking forward to hearing from you. My cell number is 978-468-3762.

Nicholas
